Dead To A Dying World

“Dead To A Dying World” is a 7-piece band hailing from Dallas, Texas.  This band consists of Mike Yeager (Vocals), Sam Pruitt (Cello, Vocals), Leigh Ann Jensen (Upright Bass), Sean Mehl (Guitar), James Eidson (Guitar), James Magruder (Bass Guitar), and Stefan Gonzalez (Drums). Their debut E.P. was produced by Kylesa's Phillip Cope.  This 43 minute long album has easily reached one of my favorite albums of 2012. The power that each song contains brings each title to life in your head making this album one solid masterpiece of music.  “Concrete and Steel” being over 14 minutes long is the first of the three songs, and it takes you on a beautiful, dark trip. The melody of the song gets stuck in your head. At 4:55 the song breaks into a heavy flow.  Its raw power, brutal vocals, is only the beginning to this band’s talent.  The next track is titled “Stagmation”. Being under seven minutes, makes this track the shortest of the three. Starting off with a very black drone intro to the song then becomes the heaviest of the album. And lyrics like “Your gods, they’re not watching, their fables, they’re all dead. Yet we still keep building with blood on our hands. Stones stacked like tombs, monuments like withered eyes Pillars of smoke, columns of fire.” This was a band I can only listen to the album in its entirety. Last we have a song over 22 minutes long. “We Enter The Circle At Night… And Are Consumed By Fire” starts off with a soft melody like the rest but that’s ok, the buildup of this band is what shows how talented they really are. Less than a minutes in it’s a heavy flow of instruments making great music. I highly recommend this band to anyone that has great taste in music. “Scolding unconscious, behold wrath..”
